The master craftswoman and founder of Marmor Paperie is one of just 12 professional paper marblers practising this endangered craft here in the UK. Lucy first trained in Turkey to learn the traditional technique known as Ebru, recognised by UNESCO.
The water-inspired patterns are an ode to the marbling process, which Lucy describes as 'a collaboration with the water.' We chose a vivid mix of blues, with flashes of neon orange reminiscent of days spent by the water, with orange arm-bands and fluorescent bikinis!
Thanks to the nature of the marbling process, every single one is unique. The intricate patterns created on the surface of the water and transferred to the paper by laying it down and taking an impression of the paints. The whole process then starts again with the next print, so no two are exactly the same.
Our paper-based packaging is designed to be re-used, and then recycled. Our glassine envelopes and hand-wrapped bible paper replace single-use plastics.
We proudly share every step of our production process. We work exclusively with specialist printers and book-binders in UK and Europe who share our perfectionism and attention to detail.
Initiatives like Pre-orders and Seconds Sales help to avoid over-production or waste. Our like-minded bindery recycles even the paper dust created during production.
