The second in our series of Limited Edition notebooks, which each showcase special materials and binding techniques.
The pages are ‘Singer-sewn’ (on a sewing machine similar to those used to stitch fabric). There is then a 2-piece hard-back case, which is wrapped in natural book cloth, to create an unusual notebook combining the slimline quality of an exercise book with the elegance of a cloth-bound cover. Book cloth made in Holland. End papers in Flint grey Colorset, which is made in Germany from 100% post industrial waste.
Pages in Olin Smooth Cream, milled at the Stoneywood Paper Mill in Aberdeenshire, one of the last surviving mills on the River Don in Scotland. It is very smooth and a pleasure to write on.
Each notebook is hand-numbered. If you would like a specific number between 1 and 250, please include a note at checkout. (NB: Numbering is per batch and specific numbers are subject to availability. Higher numbers are more likely to be available).
Following the success of our first Diary in 2017, we have collaborated again with Swiss-German graphic designer, Catherine Nippe, for our 2018 Diary.
We developed the clean page layouts, in response to research and discussions with diary users back in 2016. We wanted to provide maximum writing space, stripping away any unnecessary page clutter, providing a helpful 'picture of the week.'
The 2018 Diary has a cover in grey-green, with copper foil details. The page layouts are printed in muted grey. The diary has 112 pages, with a week-per-spread and a year overview for 2018 and 2019. They are printed in Netherlands by Drukkerij Tielen, and ota-bound at Binderij Hexspoor for a perfect layflat. First batch of 300, September 2017.
The pages are 120gsm Olin Smooth Cream, which is milled at Stoneywood, Aberdeenshire. It is beautifully smooth and thick enough that even an inky pen won't bleed through. The warm cream tone is calm and classy.
As with all our notebooks and diaries, each diary is individually numbered and hand-wrapped at our London workshop.
In response to feedback from users of our 2017 Diary, we have made some tweaks :
— we are including a set of brass page markers with each copy, to help you keep track of the current week, and important dates coming up
— we have avoided printing on the end pages to allow more white space
The Notebook Mark One is our classic notebook and we promise never to change any of the features that make it special. However each batch has its own distinct details to set it apart from other batches.
Batch 1 sold out in October 2017, and we are excited launch Batch 2, featuring a calm grey-blue end paper.
A5 Ota-bind notebook, 160 pages. Second batch of 300 (November 2017).
Our signature notebook, which we have developed in response to the request for a ‘perfect notebook for every day.’
Ota-bound using thread-sewing and a small amount of cold glue, to retain flexibility in the spine; the result is as durable as it is elegant. The book simply falls open flat when placed on a surface for writing.
Pages in Naturalis Vanilla Smooth, milled on the banks of the River Leven in Scotland, is remarkably smooth on both sides. End papers in Colorplan, made in the Lake District. Cover in Wild Black, which is made from 35% cotton fibres, develops a great patina with use. Thumbcut motif in copper foil, and blind deboss.
Each notebook is hand-numbered. If you would like a specific number between 1 and 300, please include a note at checkout. (NB: Numbering is per batch and specific numbers are subject to availability. Higher numbers are more likely to be available).
