Following the success of our first Diary in 2017, we have collaborated again with Swiss-German graphic designer, Catherine Nippe, for our 2018 Diary.
We developed the clean page layouts, in response to research and discussions with diary users back in 2016. We wanted to provide maximum writing space, stripping away any unnecessary page clutter, providing a helpful ‘picture of the week.’
The 2018 Diary has a cover in grey-green, with copper foil details. The page layouts are printed in muted grey. The diary has 112 pages, with a week-per-spread and a year overview for 2018 and 2019. They are printed in Netherlands by Drukkerij Tielen, and ota-bound at Binderij Hexspoor for a perfect layflat. First batch of 300, September 2017.
As with all our notebooks and diaries, each diary is individually numbered and hand-wrapped at our London workshop.
In response to feedback from users of our 2017 Diary, we have made some tweaks :
— we are including a set of brass page markers with each copy, to help you keep track of the current week, and important dates coming up
— we have avoided printing on the end pages to allow more white space

Subscribers have preview access to new products before they go on general sale, as well as exclusive access to special products. The first of these will be our Customised Exercise Books Service, which will be available soon.
You will be invited to take part in our design process when we are developing new products; this often involves us sending you mock-ups to try out and tell us what you think. We always love to hear feedback about the products or ideas for new things you’d like to see us doing in future.

Limited edition of 200, November 2016.
This year we are very excited to add our first Diary to the Mark+Fold range. Combining the best materials and binding techniques we have come across, we carried out research with diary users to develop a brief, and collaborated with Swiss-German graphic designer Catherine Nippe to design the clean, simple layout.
Like our Notebook Mark One, the Diary features Ota-binding for an elegant, effortless lay flat. The Diary is printed using traditional offset lithography, and bound in Holland by the renowned Binderij Hexspoor.
We sampled over 100 white papers to select Olin Smooth Cream 120gsm which is milled in Aberdeenshire. It is wonderfully smooth and thick enough to prevent ink showing through. The cover is made from heavy 350gsm stock, milled in the Lake District. The cobalt blue cover is offset with subtle detailing in matt gold foil.
The design is inspired by our in-depth discussions with diary users, who told us about how they use their diary day-to-day. We developed a brief based on the principle that your diary should inspire you to make plans and feel organised. We wanted to offer the maximum writing space on each spread, and avoid anything in the layout that would cause an obstruction to your thought process. We were told that, as well as listing appointments, it would be useful to have some list-writing and note-taking space on the page; that some divisions were helpful, but anything too prescriptive could be annoying. We chose the Verlag typeface for its simplicity, elegance and legibility, and the diary is printed in Pantone ink throughout to match the colour of the cover.
A5 Diary (December 2016 — January 2018). Printed offset litho Pantone 295U to match the cover stock. Ota-bound in Netherlands by Binderij Hexspoor. 112 pages Olin Smooth Cream 120gsm. Cover 350gsm Colorplan Cobalt, with details in matt gold foil Luxor 429.
Over the past few months, we have been busy hand-making exercise books in collaboration with our stockists. Now we are delighted to have made a short run of exercise books exclusively for the Mark+Fold shop.
For the first time, we have played around with formats, so the series includes an A6 pocket size and A4 sketchbook format, as well as our usual A5.

Our first set of Hand-made Exercise Books were created to mark the launch of Mark+Fold in November 2015. We have since created a number of special editions in collaboration with SCP, Harvey Nichols, Another Country and Bamford. These were riffs on our signature design — inset fore-edge and contrasting end papers and thread.
We sew the books by hand in our London studio, using waxed linen thread from Northern Ireland. As with all our notebooks, we use one of the most smooth and luxurious off-white papers we have come across. Olin is made at Stoneywood Mill in Aberdeenshire, one of the last surviving mills on the River Don.

The first of our planner pads, designed to inspire organisation and prompt creativity. The clean, simple layout allows you to use the pad flexibly, whilst providing structure and a format that sits well on a desk amongst other things.
Designed in collaboration with our subscribers and customers, who tested draft layouts and provided feedback on the design. The three columns are designed to cater for different 'modes' of thinking or planning — blank white space, a fine lined grid, and a list with tick boxes. All printed in a muted grey Pantone ink so that the grid is helpful without getting in your way.
