MARGO SELBY COLLABORATION
In 2017 we had the pleasure of collaborating with British weaver Margo Selby, on a series of notebooks that transpose her woven patterns into the medium of print. When we visited Margo’s Whitstable studio, every surface was saturated with texture and colour, decadently large pieces of fabric hang from the walls, tempting you to dive into them. Margo’s work is full of three-dimensionality, made up of individual coloured threads, so it had to be translated in such a way as to keep all of this character and tactility, to reflect the story of the making process.
2017 SPECIAL EDITION FOR SCP
Following our first Special Edition for SCP in 2016, we have developed a new series to be launched in their London stores and online in spring 2017. The Exercise Books are individually hand-made at our London studio, using waxed linen thread. The covers are in a kraft ‘Nomad’ card, with endpapers in Mandarin Orange, Sky Blue and Smoke Grey, all milled in the Lake District.
We worked closely with Swiss-German graphic designer, Catherine Nippe, to develop the layouts for our 2017 Diary. Following discussions with diary-users, we created a layout that is pared-back and allows maximum writing space. The page is divided into compartments, to help you to organise your notes, but without being prescriptive about what to write where. The Diary is Ota-bound in Holland, with a 350gsm Colorplan Cobalt cover and white gold foil detailing.
MARK+FOLD for Bamford
We’ve been working closely with the creative team at Bamford to develop a range of notebooks celebrating our shared approach to fine materials and making. Reflecting Bamford’s inimitable palette of muted greys and whites, the range includes Exercise Books hand-made at our London studio, as well as Natural Linen Journals with end papers in Japanese Yomoushi (Sheeps’ Wool Paper), and a cool black-on-black Mens’ Notebook featuring our signature Ota-binding. Each notebook has been individually numbered and hand-wrapped in delicate 35gsm paper. Launch event: Wednesday 23 November 2016, Bamford South Audley Street (Mayfair)
Custom notebooks for the launch of Another Country’s Desk Two, June 2016
We developed a set of three notebooks for Another Country. Designed to reflect their beautifully understated palette, the series includes matt black, terracotta and camel shade from the Keaykolor range, which are milled in France. The notebooks feature our signature inset fore-edge detail and are sewn using waxed linen thread. The notebooks were hand-made at our London studio in June, 2016. They are available exclusively in Another Country’s Marylebone shop and online at www.anothercountry.com.
Special series of Exercise Books for Harvey Nichols, April 2016
To mark the launch of the new Menswear Lifestyle space, Project 109, we designed and hand-made a series of five notebooks specially for Harvey Nichols. The papers are made at an historic mill in the UK’s Lake District and include shades of grey and navy, with rough and smooth textured papers, and highlights of ‘egg yolk’ yellow. With echoes between them, the notebooks can be paired up in a number of different combinations, as a set of two, three, four or five. Inspired by the palette of the Scandinavian coastline, the notebooks are designed to sit well alongside the clothing in the new space by Norse Projects, Oliver Spencer et al. Hand-sewn at our London studio using waxed linen thread from Northern Ireland, in contrasting colours to complement the luxurious papers used. The pages, as ever, are remarkably soft, using Olin Smooth Cream 120gsm, which is milled at Stoneywood in Aberdeenshire.
